Thursday, April 9

I was actually sitting outside a week ago, in the sunshine getting my Vitamin D, while I write this post.  I think I probably miss being outside on the playground and making snack the most about not being at school.  And, no, I'm not coming to your house to make snack!

I will tell you my favorite part about this blog is getting all the pictures from you and your children.  I share them all with the teachers as well as the 'miss you' emails you send.

Why do we dye eggs at Easter?  There are several theories out there.  Many say that eggs represent rebirth and that since Jesus is reborn on Easter that is why.  Others say that either Mary Magdalene or Jesus' mother, Mary, brought eggs with them to the crucifixion and that they were stained red with Jesus's blood.  When the tradition began, eggs were dyed red to symbolize the blood Jesus shed for us.

When you dye eggs with your family this Easter, here is a little prayer:

The Egg Dye Prayer

How to Dye Easter Eggs with Food Coloring or Natural ColorsThe egg is for new life in spring.
As you color your eggs, thank God for these things.
BLUE is for the sky above.
RED reminds us of God's love.
YELLOW is for our home so sweet.
GREEN is for the food we eat.
PURPLE is for the gift of prayer.
ORANGE is for our families who care.
Thank you, Jesus, for the life you gave
For each of us you came to save.

2s: Egg Decorating and Matching

1.  You'll need the large egg on card stock and the Q-tips from your packet.  You'll also need paint, watercolors or markers.

Mom or Dad, cut out the egg for your child.  You can talk with your child about the shape of the egg and that it is now white.  To celebrate Easter, we decorate eggs.

Using the Q-tips, let your child paint their egg.  If you do not have paint, you can use markers and then drip-drop water onto the egg to make a beautiful pattern!

2.  Print out two copies of the Easter Egg Matching page from our website.

Cut the eggs out so that they look like cards.

Mix up one of each egg card on the table, face up.  Give your child the other set of cards and have them find the matching card on the table.
