Tuesday, April 14

Good morning, everyone.

Guess what today is?  National Gardening Day!  And we're talking about gardens and planting.  How appropriate!

EVERYONE

Today, Ms. Tammi suggested you go outside and find some leaves, rocks and sticks.  Use these items to make a pattern.

Twos, start with an ABAB pattern - rock, leaf, rock, leaf.  Threes, start with ABAB, but see if your child can progress to ABCABC or ABBABB, etc.  Fours, ABBABB then try ABBCABBC or something different.

After your child makes a pattern, challenge them by asking what comes next.  Or remove something from the pattern and ask them to figure out what's missing.

2s: The Color Yellow - day 2

1.  Watch this yellow sing-a-long: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MPIXADaOoM

2.  Make a yellow collage.

In your bag, you'll find a baggie with all kinds of yellow items.  You'll need a piece of paper and some glue.

Write YELLOW on the top of the page with a yellow crayon or marker if you have it.  Allow your child to use the glue and items to make a collage.

If you did not pick up your packet, use yellow scraps from around the house to make a collage.  Let your child help you choose items to use.

3.  Finger Painting

Make yellow finger paint with the recipe posted on April 7 if you don't have finger paints at home.

Allow your child to finger paint.  Use different items in the paint besides their hands - toy cars, a fork, a ball, a cup, etc.

3.  Make a yellow collage.

In your bag, you'll find a baggie with all kinds of yellow items.  You'll need a piece of paper and some glue.

4s: Plant Life Cycle

1.  Watch Doc Binocs talk about the Parts of a Plant: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3St51F4kE8

2.  Now that you know something about the parts of a plant, let's talk about roots - What are they?  Why are they important?

Plant roots go to extreme lengths to find water • Earth.comGo to the preschool website and print out the All About Roots book.  You'll also need crayons or markers, scissors.

(It's okay to do this activity in more than one sitting)

Let your child cut the four pages in half.  Save the blank half-page for something else.

Let your child color in the pictures on the last page and cut the pictures apart.

Staple the book together.  Read the book with your child and encourage them to trace the words, first with their fingers and then with a crayon or pencil.

Glue the pictures where appropriate.

Read the book again.  Encourage your child to share the book with others.

3.  You can watch my son, Zane, read the book In My Garden: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ctRu2kCsz752ToOBj1RPNiwfg8IlLN7v/view?usp=sharing

What kinds of things would grow in your garden?

4.  Build a Plant

Go to the Scholastic My Big World website: www.mybigworld.scholastic.com.  Remember, the online passcode is WCPS4s.

Click on the Build a Plant game.  Help your child navigate the game.

5.  Play the Lava Game

Use pillows, pieces of paper, fabric squares or something similar to make stepping stones on the floor.

Pretend that the floor is made of lava and you cannot step on it!  Use the stepping stones to navigate the floor.  If you fall off, you must go back to the beginning!

Stretch those legs and use your arms for balance.
