Tuesday, April 7

Day three of the week is Tuesday!

The weather watcher told me that it might rain today.  What do you think?

EVERYONE

What can we do in the rain outside?  Can you catch rain drops on your tongue?  Can we stomp in puddles?  Sure, if you wear your rain boots!  Can we launch a boat in the rain water?  Sure, here's directions to make a paper boat!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BM6G_QLxkCE

Can you make a boat and decorate it?  If it doesn't rain today, you can float it in the bathtub or in a pan of water!

Today, we're going to do some activities with jellybeans.  Jellybeans are shaped like eggs and eggs have always been associated with Easter and rebirth.

We're also going to talk about Jesus when he was a boy.  He was a very clever boy and his earthly parents, Mary and Joseph, were very proud of him.

2s: Jesus and Jellybeans

1.  When Jesus was a boy, he was a lot like you.  He liked to learn.  He liked to play with friends.  He loved his parents.

Mom or Dad can read you a story about Jesus as a little boy.  Click here to print it from our website: ---

2.  We are going to work on our colors with jellybeans!

Have Mom or Dad print the jellybean sorting sheet from our website.  Get the bag of jellybeans from your bag of supplies.  There are 8 colors of jellybeans in the bag: red, orange, yellow, green, pink, purple, white and black.
Take out one jellybean.  Can you name the color?  Can you point out that color on the page?  Now put the jellybean on that circle.  Do this with all the jellybeans in your bag.

Which color has the biggest pile?  That color has the 'most'.  Do you have any circles that are empty, with no beans?  No beans means you have 'zero' beans.

3s:  Jesus, eggs and an Easter card

1. Read the story of Jesus as a boy from our website.  Talk with your child about how Jesus was just like them when he was a boy.  He liked to play.  He had friends.  He loved his parents very much.  After reading the story, ask them how they can be more like Jesus.

2.  From your bag you'll need the two doilies, the cotton ball, the pink bunny ears, and the folded pastel colored paper.  You'll also need glue or a glue stick.

On the front of the card, glue the big circle near the bottom of the page.  Next, glue the little circle on top of that one so that it looks like a little, 2-balled snowman.  Glue the cotton ball in the center of the big circle.  Finally, glue the pink ears above the small circle.  It should look like a bunny from the back!

Inside the card, it says "Happy Easter!  Love,".  Write your name on the bottom, underneath where it says 'Love,'.

You can keep the card to share with your family or you can mail it to a family member or a friend!

3.  Sorting & Matching Easter Eggs

Print out the page Colored Egg Matching on our website.

You can cut the cards apart and then cut the eggs in half.  Mix them up, face down on the table. or just on the floor.  Close your eyes and pick two pieces, one for each hand.  Open your eyes!  Name the colors.  Do the colors match?  Try again until you get a match!

Or just take your time and match all the eggs back up again.

If you have plastic Easter eggs at home, use them instead!

4s: Easter card and the Letter W

Walrus
This walrus has some big tusks!
1.  Letter W

Practice writing your letter Ws.  Practice writing your name.  Remember to use an uppercase only at the start of your name.  Can you think of some words that start with the /w/ sound?  Window, wheel, walrus all start with W!

Numbers 6-10

Using your numbers practice sheet, practice writing the numbers 6-10.  Can you find 6- Q-tips, 7 paperclips, 8- baby carrots, 9- blocks, and 10- Cheerios?  (you get the idea, Mom and Dad?)

2.  Experimenting

Can you build a ramp?  You can use blocks, cardboard, anything flat to make your ramp.  One end should be 'elevated'.  Do you know what that means?  It means it should be higher than the other end.  To elevate your ramp, you might use books, pillows, a chair, etc.

Find different items from around the house.  Will it roll down the ramp?  Make a guess before you try.  See if your guess was correct.

If it doesn't roll down a shallow ramp, will it roll if you make the ramp taller?  Find out!

3.  Make an Easter Card

You'll need the large, white egg with 'Happy Easter, Love,' written on it, the pink paper with what looks like an egg on it, scissors and something to write with.

Cut out the white egg shape with your scissors.  Remember to hold your scissors with your thumb in the small hole and your fingers in the other hole.  Your thumb goes facing up.

Once you've cut it out, draw eyes, a bunny nose and whiskers on the face.  Write your name on the bottom of the egg underneath the word 'Love,'.

Now, cut out the pink egg shape.  First cut around, and then cut on the line up the middle.

Put two of the pink ends together so that they overlap.  See in this picture?

Close them over the bunny's face and flip them open to look like ears!

You can keep your card or mail it to a family member or friend!
